Insider’s Guide: These Casinos Have the Loosest Slots in Las Vegas

Updated October 2026 with the Nevada Gaming Control Board's latest figures (12 months through August 2026).

Ever feel like those Vegas slot machines are just money-eating monsters? You sit down, spin a few times, and boom, your cash vanishes faster than your last New Year’s resolution. But not all slots are equally hungry. Nevada publishes how much casinos actually keep from slot players, area by area, and the gap is real.

So instead of guessing, we went to the numbers. Here’s where the loosest slots in Las Vegas are right now, which machines pay back the most, and the casinos to head for.

The Short Answer: Where Are the Loosest Slots in Las Vegas Today?

Off the Strip. Over the last 12 months, the Boulder Highway area paid back the most of any Las Vegas-area market, with casinos keeping about 6.6% of what was played. The Strip kept 7.8% and Downtown kept 8.4%.

Area (12 months to Aug 2026)Casino keepsPaid back to players
Boulder Highway area6.55%about 93.5%
Rest of Clark County (Summerlin, Henderson and other locals areas)6.59%about 93.4%
North Las Vegas7.63%about 92.4%
Las Vegas Strip7.75%about 92.3%
Downtown / Fremont Street8.36%about 91.6%

Yes, that means Downtown is actually tighter than the Strip overall, which surprises a lot of people. (There’s one big exception, coming up in the denomination section.)

What Are “Loose Slots,” Anyway?

Loose slots are machines that give more money back over time. That’s measured as Return to Player (RTP), or payback. A machine with 95% payback returns $95 for every $100 played, on average, over a very long run. In the short run, anything can happen, which is the fun part.

Nevada doesn’t publish payback for individual casinos or individual machines. It does publish what casinos win by area and by denomination every month, which is the most reliable public data there is. That’s what this guide uses.

Top Casinos for Loose Slots in Las Vegas

Because the state reports by area, not by casino, these picks are casinos in the areas that paid back the most. Your mileage on any one machine will vary.

1. Sam’s Town (Boulder Highway)

A Boulder Highway landmark in the loosest-paying area in Las Vegas. Big, locals-focused and a long way from Strip prices.

Location: Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall

2. Boulder Station (Boulder Highway)

Another Boulder Highway locals favorite in the same top-paying area.

Location: Boulder Station

3. Rampart Casino (Summerlin)

Out in calm, quiet Summerlin, in the “rest of Clark County” group that nearly tied Boulder Highway. It rarely gets crowded, which is great when you actually want a seat.

Location: Rampart Casino

4. Red Rock Casino (Summerlin)

Upscale locals casino in the same area group, with a huge slot floor.

Location: Red Rock Casino Resort

5. Green Valley Ranch (Henderson)

Henderson’s big locals resort, also in the higher-paying off-Strip group.

Location: Green Valley Ranch

6. Downtown? Play the Dollar Machines

Staying on Fremont Street? Downtown is tighter overall, but its $1 machines kept only 6.1% over the last year, versus 7.2% for $1 machines on the Strip. Downtown pennies, on the other hand, kept 10.6%. Classic spots like Main Street Station, The D and El Cortez are fun places to put that tip to work.

The Biggest Factor: Denomination

Where you play matters, but what you play matters more. Here’s what Strip casinos kept by denomination over the last 12 months:

25¢11.44%

Penny slots keep more than twice as much as $5 machines. (More on that in our guide to penny slots in Las Vegas.) If your budget allows, moving up a denomination (and betting fewer lines) is the single easiest way to play looser.

How to Spot Loose Slots Like a Pro

1. Go for Bigger Denominations

See the table above. $1 and $5 machines consistently pay back more than penny machines, everywhere in Las Vegas.

2. Give Video Poker a Look

Video poker is the one machine where you can check the odds before you sit down. A full-pay “9/6” Jacks or Better game (9 coins for a full house, 6 for a flush on a one-coin bet) returns about 99.5% with perfect play. Check the pay table on the glass and skip the 8/5 and 7/5 versions.

3. Know What You’re Chasing on Big Progressives

Those giant linked jackpots are exciting, but part of every bet funds the jackpot, so day-to-day payouts tend to be smaller. Play them for the dream, not for steady wins.

4. Join the Players Club

It’s free, and the comps, free play and mailers add real value back on top of whatever the machine pays.

5. Set a Budget Before You Sit Down

Even the loosest machine keeps a few percent over time. Decide what you’re spending, and when it’s gone, it’s show time.

Final Thoughts

Finding the loosest slots in Las Vegas isn’t about luck alone. Head off the Strip to Boulder Highway or the locals casinos, play higher denominations, and check video poker pay tables, and your money goes further. On Fremont Street, stick to the dollar machines.

Win or lose, Vegas is all about the fun. Play for the thrill, and always know when to cash out and hit a show. Because at the end of the day, the real jackpot is the experience.
