Outdoor Activities near Vegas : Adventures off the strip

Have you ever been to Las Vegas and asked yourself that “Is this city just all about neon lights and world-class entertainment”. There are a plenty of exciting outdoor pursuits close to Las Vegas if you’d rather get away from the casinos and into nature. From breathtaking scenery to one-of-a-kind outdoor events, here’s how to combine excitement with a Las Vegas vibe!

Towering resorts, constant entertainment, and an electric energy that never fades are the core of Las Vegas. A new kind of show, however, begins to unravel as the neon lights go down. One formed by red rock cliffs that reach great heights, desert roads that twist and turn, and canyons that have been eroded over many centuries.

The Sin City has more to offer than most people would ever know—a kayaking trip down a canyon that looks unspoiled by time, a beautiful drive across some of the most breathtaking Southwest vistas, or an outdoor concert against the natural backdrop.

The Wild Side of the Sin city

Picture this: As you travel towards the horizon, the pavement stretches out front, while the Strip is behind you. In a matter of minutes, what was once the skyline in the rearview mirror gives way to something ancient and vast.

Or maybe you’re further out, standing on the edge of the Hoover Dam, looking down at the Colorado River cutting through the Black Canyon. This engineering wonder that diverts millions of gallons of water could keep you here for a while. On the other hand, you could just hop in a kayak and paddle along the river, passing towering cliffs that seem to be swallowing the sky as they ascend hundreds of feet on either side.

Just like its nightlife, Vegas isn’t afraid to do adventure. You just have to step outside to see it.

The Only Outdoor Adventure guide you will need

Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive: A trip to another Planet Choose this one outdoor getaway if you only have time for one. Along its 13 miles, the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive makes its way directly through some of Nevada’s most breathtaking scenery.

Calico Hills – Giant red and orange rock formations that look like they belong on another planet.

High Point Overlook – The best panoramic view of the entire canyon. Trust me when I say you should stop right now.

Petroglyph Wall – Ancient rock carvings that have been here for nearly a thousand years, left behind by the people who first called this desert home.

The best time to go, How about this time? Setting sun. You will never forget the stunning effect of the setting sun’s rays on the rocks, which transform them from a deep red to a flaming gold.

Make It a Weekend – Stay in Style

There is no better place to relax and rejuvenate than at one of the best hotels in Las Vegas after a day of excitement. Hotel offers on Ticketkite make it simple to locate the ideal place to stay, whether you’re looking for a quiet spot or a luxurious one on the Strip. Get the most out of your Las Vegas vacation by reserving your hotel and show tickets at the same time.

Hoover dam and Black canyon—A New Kind of Rush

Most of the people stop by the Hoover Dam, snap a few pictures, and then they just  leave. However, once you cross the dam, the true adventure begins.

Kayak the Colorado River – Start at the base of the Hoover Dam and paddle through Black Canyon. The water is clear as glass, the canyon walls rise high around you, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a desert bighorn sheep looking from above.

The Hot springs hike– Natural hot springs are tucked away in the rocks not far from the river, so you may reach them by hiking. You have to climb a little to get there, but the soak is well worth it.

Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman bridge view- The Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge is a great place to stand — You can’t believe what you’re seeing. You can see the dam across the river if you look in one direction. Turn around, and you’ll see nothing but an endless desert.

Visit Boulder City on the return trip if you want to make it a “day”. Because it is one of the few Nevada places where gambling is banned which means this place has an authentic small-town vibe that is hard to find anywhere else close to Las Vegas.

Outdoor Activities Shows & Events

Where Nature Takes Center Stage Theater entertainment in Las Vegas doesn’t end when you step out of the theater. Under the open sky, you may witness some of the most spectacular performances.

Concerts on Lake Las Vegas – Enjoy live music by the lakeside, far from the hustle and bustle of the Strip.

Light shows at the Valley of Fire—a bizarre fusion of illuminated rock formations with the natural environment.

Think electronic dance music (EDM) against a starry desert sky during a music festival. It is wild in a unique way.

Plus, what’s great? There will be no stuffy theaters or overcrowded casinos—just the open air and what seems like an endless night.

Step Outside. Vegas Is More Than What you See.

Even while the city of Las Vegas was designed to amuse, you won’t find the finest of it in the casinos or on stages. They’re far from city, in the desert, on twisting roads, in rivers cutting through canyons, and in the empty places where nature takes over.
